Dr. Ray (Rayme) Pastore has 8 years of instructional design experience, which includes extensive corporate and academic experience. He has studied and practiced instructional design theories and methodologies through courses, research, teaching, and computer based training development. Ray recently earned his Ph.D. in Instructional Systems with a minor in Educational Psychology from Penn State University and is currently an Assistant Professor at Slippery Rock University near Pittsburgh, PA.
Research: I have been developing a line of research that focuses on multiple representations, computer-based tools, and metacognitive strategies that support learning from a multimedia environment (please see my curriculum vitae for a list of publications and presentations). Using quantitative methods, my dissertation sought to examine the effects of diagrams and time-compressed instruction (i.e., instruction that has been increased in speed without sacrificing quality) on learning and learners’ perceptions of cognitive load.
Teaching: For the last three years, I have been teaching both face-to-face and online courses at Penn State University, and most recently, I have been teaching face-to-face courses at Slippery Rock University. Additionally, I have served as a faculty member at the University of Phoenix Online since 2005. My teaching experience includes a myriad of courses on topics including: technology use in the K-16 classroom and workplace, instructional design practice and theory, and multimedia development.
